After another trip to Costco to pick up 4 more bags of sugar, I am inspired to write about how to attract hummingbirds to your home. I will say, since the Paradise fires, we have had a large influx of hummers.
Waking up in the morning to sunshine on my face, drinking a great cup of coffee, meditating, writing in my morning pages, and watching humming birds eat is the perfect morning in my mind. I have learned a lot this last year about how to attract hummingbirds, We visited some friends last year for a Super bowl party and they had tons of these little fairy birds. I asked the gentleman who lived there for his secret sauce recipe and this is what he said.
3/4 Sugar to 1/4 water. We did this all summer and immediately had results. We started with 1 feeder and had to get another one asap, that quickly was not enough so now there are 4. 3 in the back yard and 1 in the front.

What we discovered by accident is this, these little guys do not like competition when eating. They are super aggressive and the more feeders you have close to each other the more hummers you will attract.
Plant a habitat that attracts hummingbirds. They seem to love the purple sage in my yard, which is also beautiful. They also seem to love all of the flowers from the succulents blooms.
Places to perch and sleep is also great for them. We happen to have several trees, the olives are the favorite for the little guys to sleep in.
Places to bathe. We have several water features around our home. There is one outside my bedroom window that they love to bathe in at around 6:00 am. You can hear them chirping and splashing. I love waking up to that sound.
Now I am off to fill my feeders and watch these little guys while I enjoy a glass of red wine. #winecountryliving
